Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on two opponents using grappling (gripping, handling and controlling of an opponent without the use of striking) and ground fighting techniques with the goal of one opponent gaining a dominant position over the other and forcing him/her to submit. Although students come to BJJ for a variety of reasons, many come to train for self-defense, grappling tournaments or mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions.
Using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu removes size as a factor of competition - a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant.
UMACA offers Jiu-Jitsu through J.W. Wright's Grappling Concepts, a proud affiliate of Royler Gracie and David Adiv RGDA Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Instructor J.W. Wright is a brown belt under Royler Gracie and David Adiv.
